2023 Sangiovese, Chalk Hill, I'Amico

$50.00/750mlAlcohol: 14.5%
The Sangiovese vineyard lies on the upper slopes of the Chalk Hill AVA, at an elevation of around 800 feet with southwest sun exposure and intense drainage. The 2023 L’ Amico is an intensely concentrated Sangiovese. The nose has an intense expression of leather, cherry cola and strawberry notes that are bolstered by tobacco with some crushed herbs to round it out. The pallet is medium bodied to heavy bodied and is a great representation of my style of winemaking. The texture is rich, smooth and seductive. This wine is a big and bold style of Sangiovese that will benefit from decanting. This wine finishes with soft and subtle notes of herbs and dried fruit. Starting with aromatics of leather and earth notes coupled with ripe berries, red cherry, sweet tobacco and coffee notes. On the pallet there are layers of dark fruit and berry flavors with dried herbs. This Sangiovese is a mouthful with soft mid pallet tannin. This is a deep and dark Sangiovese with a richness of flavors that will continue to change and evolve as this wine ages. This wine has integrated tannins, is full body and food friendly. Food pairing suggestions: Aged, and salty cheeses that can work well with this wine are Parmigiano-Reggiano, OG Gouda and any hard salty cheese. This Sangiovese will pair exceptionally well with rich, charred red meats, savory braises, and cured charcuterie. Topography: The soil is composed of quartzite-rich volcanic ash, tuff, sand, and silty loam from ancient eruptions of the Sonoma Volcanics off of Chalk Hill Road Appellation: Chalk Hill Vineyard: TADDEI Lease Grapes: T19 Oak Aging: 25 months in 100 % new French Oak Skin Contact: 22 days Malolactic Fermentation: In barrel Alcohol: 14.5% Serving: Serve at 60°-65°F Formats: 750ml/12 bottles This wine is un-fined, un-filtered and Gelatin free.
